Hey folks,
Here's the last dio that I finished last year. I only publish it now because there were one or two details I had to rework and I finally found time to do it. It depicts the retreat from the Belgian army after the fall of Antwerp. After an unexpected fierce resistance against the German army since august 1914 the Belgian army retreated in october 1914 towards France and settled behind the Yser until 1918 where they deliberately flooded the area to create a natural protection against the German army. Later on they participated with the allies to the offensive of 1918 that led to the liberation.
The uniforms depicted here are typical of the Belgian army in the beginning of the conflict, they looked old fashioned (a bit Napoleonic) for the time and even show features like shinning materials and colors for some units. The uniforms evolved a lot later during 1915 and 1916 to become much more adapted to the trench war and unified between the different units.
Enjoy the pics!
